Story

Long ago, a young island couple in the ruby sea sought the guidance of the auspice Seiryu. Believing him to be a benevolent deity rather than the malicious force many assumed him to be, the couple begged for him to bless them with child. The two were desperate. The wife was sickly and unable to conceive, and they believed a fraction of the auspices power would allow her a healthy pregnancy. Touched by their story, Seiryu infused a sliver of his power into the woman. Months later, the couple gave birth to their child. The child, however, was not a human being.Enraged and heartbroken, the couple returned to Seiryu's dwelling with the serpent in their arms. They were unable to bear the ostracization that would fall upon them for giving birth to a monster. And so Kohaku was left as an infant on Seiryu's land, intended to be yet another sacrifice to the deity.Since then Kohaku was taken and raised by the auspice, learning about the land and the balance of nature, the sea and the city. For forty years, the serpent yokai would live among the four lords, until Kohaku sought their knowledge elsewhere. They began their journey to Kugane, where they found themself working at a teahouse as as a courtesean and server. One night during their shift, they caught word of a house on the edge of the city, filled with mysterious and unusual kinds of people. Piqued by the concept, Kohaku decided to stake out the place on their own.
However the manor's security was much more efficient than they had initially realized. Kohaku was caught in the act of spying, and interrogated about their intentions. After relaying their choices were not malicious and they were merely looking to work somewhere other than the teahouse, they were brought in as a member of the house of kazukida and offered a job as the head housekeeper, after learning of their experience in hospitality.
